My Delightfully Tacky House

I love love love to decorate and then redecorate, add something here, take something away, put it back in again.  I swing from no clutter back to a love of clutter but never really in between.  I could never ever do minimal.  I don't like spare, sparse, clean.  I can appreciate it in other people's homes but for me it just won't do.  I need things around me that are colorful, personal, nature inspired, silly, and unique.

I tried white on the walls once.  Blah.  I've repainted my interiors 10+ times in 3 years.  Every room has had at least one makeover.   I'm a little insane when it comes to color.  It just has to be right.  And it has has HAS to be inspiring.  I need my home to make me think.

I need my walls to make me think of grass or the ocean, a worn book cover, a piece of jewelry.   When that happens, my mind wanders and suddenly I'm thinking about flowers and insects and rain and reading and dressing up.  In an instant I've taken a vacation and I'm sitting on the couch.  That's where I have to live.  And that's why I dig decorating so much.  When the color and collectibles stop making my imagination work overtime, it's time to switch it up.

Sometimes I'm inspired by a certain object, a great blog post, a page in a magazine, a nice photograph.  I'm often inspired by food.  Key limes, chili peppers, coffee, blueberries.  What better color palette for the home than a lovely plate of delicious food?

I'm also inspired by 60's & 70's sitcom decor...The Brady family had an amazing house as did Samantha and Darren Stevens.  Even Archie and Edith had a cool thing going on.  I love the coziness in the houses and the bold prints and wood details.  And hopefully soon I'll be inspired by something else.
